Traditional Therapy

How it Works

Individual therapy is centered on weekly or biweekly meetings between you and a therapist. Good therapy is highly individualized, and Brite prides itself on providing that tailored approach. For some people, therapy is very structured: goals are set and skills are learned and practiced between sessions and refined as sessions progress. For other clients, sessions are more reflective, and the focus is on understanding the client’s past and how it impacts their life.

Although your therapy will be tailored to your specific needs, Beth does tend to use elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy with most clients. These examine the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help you identify patterns that support (or undermine) your mental health. With that understanding, Brite helps clients construct workable ways to address problems.

Many clients want to know how long they will be in individual therapy. That is difficult to predict. Some clients come for 3 to 6 months, feel better, and stop therapy entirely. Others find it useful to have a therapist to check in with for months or even years.
